This week’s selection focuses on being motivated and writing.
Waking up each day and being motivated to leap out of bed to do something life-affirming would be a wonderful act indeed. I do that every weekend when I know I have my reviews to write for ILLUMINATION and Technology Hits and now ILLUMINATION’S Mirror which has to wait for Monday after work!
I hope Shweta’s motivational piece with a super choice of activities will do the trick for both you and I! Perhaps I’ll try all of them.
We all face difficult challenges in our daily lives and often lose motivation to be our best versions when facing these daunting tasks. However, a motivated person chooses strategies that enable him or her to keep moving forward, instead of being a victim of the obstacles and freezing up.
Lawson Wallace gave me no choice but to read his article. It’s not possible to not click on Stop Bitching and Do the Work!
I know people join Medium with visions of making the big bucks, I know I did. I quickly discovered that my writing skills were not good enough yet. I didn’t write articles that complained about not making any money. I stepped up my game and accepted criticism of my writing, and grew as a writer.
After the rousing speech from Lawson, Kristina Segarra provides her wisdom on building essential habits. It’s a short read linked to her ILLUMINATION-Curated article giving lots more juicy details on How to Build a Habit and Make It Stick.
If you have a passion for writing, it’s essential to build good habits to achieve success. It’s also important to adopt the right mindset to succeed in your craft.
While Kristina says 30 days for habit building, Khadejah Jones say 90 days works best.
As someone who’s written every day for seven months and counting, it’s hard to remember a time where I didn’t have a writing habit. But the main reason why most aspiring writers fail early in their career is that they don’t have the drive to write every single day.
Ana Writes is an academic writer, however, her experience has developed five excellent pieces of wisdom for all writers. I’ve always done her first tip. I have been known to leap out of bed in the morning to grab my day to a page desk diary and scribble down my stream of consciousness words. Later on I’ll make a story from them.
On workday mornings it is a real struggle to heave my sleepy body from my snuggly bed and stagger into the kitchen for a cup of tea. Unless there’s an idea brewing …
Any writer, especially beginners, can learn a lot from Ana’s article.
1. Make a plan before you begin writing
Any writer knows the advantages of having an outline. Before writing, I like to “brain-dump” on a piece of paper and basically write down all of my ideas in no particular order.
So my lovelies, get motivated, grab your pens or keyboards and get to streaming your thoughts on to the page. Make sure you ask to join ILLUMINATION’S MIRROR and maybe I’ll feature you next time in Weekly Wisdom from Karen.
Until then …
