Weekly Reading Insights from Niru

The top 5 stories I read this week

I love reading. That’s why I am here on Medium and Illumination. So many wonderful stories- upbeat, inspirational, thought provoking.

But once in a while, you come across articles that

Blow Your Mind.

Of all the stories I read this week, this tale of social change by Merve Alsan just blew my mind. I have no other words for it…

What is more awe-inspiring is the fact that this is the true story of people who decided to make a change. #amanshouldknowhisplace (the tag has been playing in my mind ever since)

The next one on the list was the intriguing sci-fi tale by Libby Mitchell. I literally want to know what happens next even though this is a micro fiction and currently Libby is still formulating the rest of the tale. Do it quick Libby Mitchell and let me know.

If the first two are bold and exciting, my next one is a story that questions the importance of trying to make our lives super exciting, super productive, super this and super that. Well, stop making your life superlative on all fronts. Remember:

What is this life is full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare!

So, slow down, stop chasing other people’s ideas of productivity and read this beautiful article by Zul Bal instead.

Now, I am not advocating becoming lazy and complacent — no indeed. Just that we need to follow what is right for our life and values. Ambition is required but tempered with the ability to enjoy our successes.

Extreme of anything is bad after all.

At the opposite end of this spectrum lie feelings like insecurity and impostor syndrome. This article touches on just that. An honest account of how to send newsletters even when you are new, unsure and not confident enough to call yourself an ‘expert’- the ones who can legitimately send out emails and newsletters. Inspirational stuff indeed by Tochukwu Okoro E.!

Continuing on that vein of inspiration, my next article is where the author is listing seven motivational figures she would like to host a dinner for. The list has features amazing trail blazers (really resisting the urge to say feminists here). Great piece Uchechi Obasi.

Five brilliant articles read- many more to go. This was my list of weekly roundup- amazing articles on Illumination that delighted, inspired and provoked deeper thought.

This post is a response to the July challenge by Dr Mehmet Yildiz.
