Weekly Prompt: Performing Arts

Chip away at your idea, spin us a yarn, wax lyrical, and work your magic

Welcome to the third weekly challenge for May, where the theme is (Mis)representation.

As we said in the Monthly Theme announcement, the goal is to get you to focus more on the characters than would usually be the case with microfiction and flash fiction.

And once again, Zane and I continue to be impressed at how many great stories we have received on both of the previous prompts.

Let’s keep this going — but it’s also becoming more challenging with our ever-diminishing word counts!

Choice Of Characters

So, for this week, we have a selection of people from the performing arts for you to pick from. Your challenge is to choose one of them and make that person the main character in your story:

  • Ballet Dancer
  • Magician
  • Sculptor
  • Singer

Challenge Requirements, Your story must:

  1. Feature one of the four performing artists listed above as your primary character.
  2. Be exactly 100 words long, excluding the title, subtitle, and any post-story bio/links. (We use Medium’s own word count feature.)
  3. Be fictional, even if it includes factual information or concerns.
  4. Use “Performing Arts” as one of your five tags.

I have long been an amateur magician, which is why it’s on the list— but I’m going to try to choose one of the other three. After all, I’d hate to be accused of stacking the deck (magic pun intended, of course) 😃

We know you won’t disappoint us…
