Abstract

The author of the Medium publication "Know Thyself" addresses the community following a significant platform glitch that occurred the previous day. The glitch, which inadvertently removed writers from the platform, prompted the author to recognize the lack of control over such technical issues. Despite the confusion and emotional turmoil, the author took the opportunity to step back and appreciate the need for a break. The incident also highlighted the vibrant community that has developed around the publication, with the author expressing deep gratitude for the contributors' trust, time, and passion. The misunderstanding that the removals were intentional is acknowledged as a lesson in ego management, emphasizing the importance of soulful responses to challenges. To improve communication, the author has created a Slack group for the community to discuss issues, share content, and bond. The article concludes with a weekend prompt inviting writers to explore the theme of "moving with swift speed into the night," encouraging creativity and personal reflection, and reminding that there is no right or wrong in expression.

Good to see you!

Yesterday was an intense day. I don’t want to dwell on it for too long, but I do want to point out the reasons why I think it was a valuable lesson for us all:

For me, the platform glitch was a much needed reminder that I have little to no control. For someone who’s been on Medium for almost two years, I can honestly say yesterday was the most confusing day so far. I detected the glitch early so I tried to figure out what was going on. How could writers possibly be removed without me doing anything to cause that? Of course, I went through all the scenarios and pretty much experienced the entire spectrum of emotions.

Later on, I remembered how much I needed a break so I took this as an opportunity to switch off for a while. To me, yesterday was a clear signal that I needed to detach a little. Although the uncertainty sucked, I am grateful it happened!

It’s been a long time since KTHT has been as quiet as it was yesterday. In the early days of the publication it used to be like that all the time, but now we have such an active community of people who interact and publish frequently, that it’s not the case anymore. Let me just say how grateful I am for all the trust, time and passion poured into the publication by all of you. Thanks a million!!!

I know a lot of you may have taken it personally, thinking you got removed on purpose. I believe this was a valuable lesson in this sense as well. You took it personally thinking how unfair it is to be removed without a notice and I took it personally that you thought I would do that! LOL. In other words, this is what happens when our egos take over. Yesterday was a gentle and humbling reminder to try and let our souls take the lead in situations such as the one we were presented with yesterday.

I think lack of communication may also have been an issue here, therefore I created a Slack group for all of you to join, a group where we can address any possible incnoveniences in the future as well as discuss ideas, articles, share books, videos & documentaries and bond!

Once you’ve downloaded the app on your computer/phone, you can join using this link:

Okay, now I’m officially done with the rambling. It’s time to take our minds off yesterday and focus on today! This weekend’s prompt is all about moving with swift speed into the night.

What night, you may ask? I don’t know. The night of the soul, the night of the comet…The night of whatever you feel inspired to write about. Remember the oldie but goldie mantra: There is no right or wrong. There just is!

I wish you all a relaxing and creative weekend! Nourish yourself & recalibrate.
