SUNDAY PROMPT

Weekend Getaway to the Beach

Dancing Elephants Press Writing Prompt

Gerhart, Oregon beach photo by Gabriella 9/18/2022

Sunday Prompt from Gabriella. Weekend Getaways. Where did you go this weekend? Please share your experiences with our publication. Here is mine from this Sunday and my inspiration for going to the beach.

I was reading a post recently from a previous classmate from my nursing school in Hungary. She was writing about how we can find excuses to do the things we want to do. She was giving the example to go to the beach. She has been finding an excuse not to go, but other things come by to do, then after months of not going, she finally decided this is enough she will go, and she had the best time.

In our daily life, it is so easy to find an excuse not to take care of ourselves. There will always be work, laundry, cleaning the house, going to the store, paying bills, and a million other things that come up that we can work on.

It is important for our well-being to schedule time for ourselves to go and do the things we like to do. I live about 45 minutes from the beach and had not been able to go for the last month. Starting a new job, driving into Portland and Vancouver from the coast I was just happy when I was at home and did not even think about going to the beach.

Reading this reminder note made me decide to go to the beach this morning and it was a very nice experience. I went to Gerhart on the coast and there is a nice beach with a park above the beach. I decided to take the dogs with me except one of my puppies decided he does not want to come. Well, I was not going to force him, he is an old boy, so he stayed home. My sheepdog Tappancs decided yes, she want to come.

I made an arrangement with a friend the day before and we met at the park and had a lovely breakfast before heading down the beach. I got to the park first and walked around with Tappancs, my puppy. I call her a puppy even though she is 10 years old. We had a nice time walking around, watching the ocean from the distance, and watching other people and other dogs as they come by.

My friend brought breakfast for us and we sit at a bench and a table eating by a lovely view, watching people and having a pleasant conversation. We decided we need to do this more often. A man walked by and told us it is nice to see that the park is been used. I was surprised by his comment as since I had been there were a lot of people coming and going throughout the park and people playing with family and pets.

After our brunch, we headed down to the beach where we walked around for a little bit. We were not able to spend much time on the beach as my old puppy decided it is time to go home and she turned around and headed back toward the car. I think it was too much for her, she is getting old now so for now we will stick with walks around the home that do not require a long car drive. I did a small recording while we were sitting at a bench and waiting for my friend.

I hope you have enjoyed this post. Where did you go this weekend? Please share your experiences with our publication.
