Week 3 : The UX Writer’s toolkit

Every profession has its tools and the UX Writer is no different.
From drafting content to organizing and even fixing the content within a design, there are lots of amazing tools UX writers work with.
Luckily for us all, these UX writing tools have already been compiled by some awesome UX writers — who also did an excellent job writing about it!

Figma for UX Writers
Yes, Figma.
As a user experience writer you may not need to know how to design a product within Figma that’ll give UX designers a run for their money, rather a basic understanding of the ins and outs would be great!
Since it’s a FREE collaborative tool that allows everyone on the design team work together, knowing your way around it and being able to add copy directly to the designs is a huge advantage.
Also, understanding how it is used to build products will give you confidence as well as help you to give feedback and contribute to the overall design.
Right now, only a few UX Writer job ads list having a basic understanding of design tools (such as Figma, Sketch, etc) as a requirement, while many list it as an added advantage. But as time progresses, we may see it become more of a requirement for UX Writers. So get ahead of the curve!
Figma sounds difficult but is it?
Over the last 2 years, learning Figma has been made a lot easier for writers and non-designers.
Figma itself consistently uploads tutorial videos on their YouTube channel showing how to use their application. With about 200 uploaded videos you can find tutorials on anything and everything you need. Don’t know how to draw a rectangle in Figma? There’s a tutorial for that!
It’s no surprise really that the best place to learn Figma is from Figma itself.
