We Went on Vacation & My Husband Ended up in A&E (ER) Again!

We’ve just come back from a week’s vacation in the Cotswolds, which explains my absence from the comments section. During the course of our holiday my husband managed to get a black eye and a head injury. He ended up in A&E again. This is starting to become a bad habit!

Last year, he ran a caravan wheel over his finger and ended up in hospital. This year, he slipped on the caravan step and smashed his head on the doorframe. He ended up back in A&E after my attempt at a bit of First Aid, just to get him through the night.

Fortunately, it was superficial and looks worse than it is, but I have given him a lecture on being more careful and taking preventative measures to stop these things happening in the first place — an informal risk assessment would be good.

For example, he knew the soles of his slippers had no grip, but chose to wear them while getting in and out of the caravan anyway. He’s now stopped doing that and wears different shoes. He doesn’t seem to be very good at risk assessments and has become more accident prone in his advancing years.

I constantly remove accidents waiting to happen from the foot of the stairs at home because he’ll put things on the stairs to go up, but cannot be bothered to take them up himself. Various obstacles end up at the foot of the stairs, until I move them to one side or take them up myself.

He previously brought down the car boot (trunk) door on his head, and ended up in A&E with blood streaming down his face. That was poor judgement before closing the boot.

Whenever I’m sorting out something in the boot, he’s reminded not to bring it down on my head, especially if he’s looking keen to close it. Yesterday, I said ‘Wait! Wait!’ As he hovered with his hand on the boot door while I was trying to put something away.

He says I talk to him like a dog, but sometimes it’s necessary to prevent accidents! ‘Wait!’

Anyway, apart from spending time in hospital — again — our holiday was lovely. We had beautiful weather and I’ve got a collection of lovely photos of the Cotswold Water Park, so I’ll leave you with some of them here. And I’ll be catching up with messages over the next few days.
