We Stumbled Upon These Cows in the Swiss Mountains

And they were so cute.

It’s been a week since I came home from my trip to Switzerland and it baffles me to see how fast time goes.

One moment you’re hiking from the mountaintops and the other moment you’re back at home for a week. We’ve seen so many beautiful places, things, and wildlife in that country. Switzerland is really something else and I can’t wait to go back.

Mostly because there are just cows walking around the mountains and just minding their own business.

Romantic Cow Bells

Before we started our journey through the Swiss mountain lands, we stayed with family for a day in the Swiss countryside. There was nothing but farmlands and cows.

These cows were very cute but had this bell as well.

The person we stayed with said that when they just started living there it sounded very romantic, with little cows and bells in the background when you wake up and fall asleep.

But after a while…

It’s getting on your nerves. It’s 24/7 the sound of ringing bells.

Nevertheless, we only stayed about 12 hours so we liked it very much when we woke up.

In Switzerland or the Alps in general, all the cows have bells. They are big and they make a lot of noise so you hear them from miles away.

This is to make sure the farmer that owns them can locate them quickly.

Now let’s get into the fun stuff, the photos.

Cows are Just Minding Their Own Business

Before we head to the Eiger Trail, we took a leap to the mountain town of Oeschinenen where we discovered the lake of Oeschinen.

After walking a bit we saw these cows.

They were roaming around the grass and sporadically people bothered them by taking pictures or petting them.

We were tempted to touch them as well, but we didn’t.

Besides cows, we haven’t seen much wildlife or animals in the mountains over here. We did see a lot of butterflies, but they were almost impossible to capture with my camera which was a shame because they were really beautiful.

They weren’t scared at all.

Butterflies in the Netherlands usually are scared and just fly away when humans come around, but these sort of want to land on your shoulders or feet.

I kept saying that they were attacking me as a joke.

Back to the cows.

After going up to the mountain tops by cable car, we first took a glance at the breathtaking view and stopped to take some photos before we started hiking and we stumbled upon these cows.

The cows were just standing there and people were treating them with love. Petting them and just being around them.

They didn’t seem to care at all.

However, this one seems to have a problem with something if you take a good look at its facial expression.

It was also the best place to take a break from the hike.

You can just sit there and be entertained for hours watching these creatures living there.

But then…

Cows vs Dog

There was this couple with their dog, as I also mentioned in my previous article about our hike.

When they approached the cows their dog already started acting a little nervous and short barks came out of his mouth. The cows didn’t respond right away.

But they had to get through because the cows blocked the path.

That dog couldn’t keep his calm and started barking at the cows which completely scared them. Slowly, but focused they ran away to the right of the path in order to avoid the dog.

So that was the moment we decided to continue our hike.

Miles further and we could still hear the bells of the cows ring. It’s a satisfying sound when you’re up there. It gives you a sense of calm and peace instead of fuming car engines or motorcycles that you have in the city.

The countryside and the mountains are the best for your mental health.
