We must Take Control of Our Narrative

On June 18, Medium’s CEO introduced Medium’s new board member, Colin Kaepernick, a civil rights activist and athlete.
According to Ev William, Kaepernick Publishing’s mission is to raise voices for the Black and Brown communities, something that is desperately needed in Medium’s editorial space.
I particularly welcome this new administrative area, although Mediu has already valued many voices within the platform since Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission issued a content request for one of the Sarawak Report articles. Medium’s legal team stood firm and responded to the commission’s request with a demand for additional information.
But there’s one big point we need to learn when approaching a subject: we have to take control of our narration in the act of playing a role whether it begins in writing or out of writing.
I found this point of Colin, a great approach that should be taken by writers who address issues of politics, public opinion or issues of race and ethnicity, psychology or a half-critical subject.
My congratulations to Colin and welcome to this wonderful team that is the Medium. We are happy to have you on the other side, and hope to see many good things through Level and Momentum.
