We Lost Out Again
No extra cash for us, and we have every right to be mad, sad and a little bad.

Yes, there has been another windfall. Yes, I lost out again. Now, you will notice that I have referred to a group in the title. That is because I know that I am not the only one not being rewarded for their work. It feels as though I am the only one talking about these developments with the utmost honesty. You’ll find no faux positivity here.
I recently came across a shocking article where the writer dared to claim that those who didn’t get the $500 from last month didn’t deserve to. This is an example of the most egregious arrogance, and it also illustrates a significant problem when it comes to writers being paid for their hard work. I will say this only once. We should reward writers for what they do!
We ALL deserve a bonus because quite frequently, our work goes ignored. For example, this month, I earned just over $19. I was also a Top Writer in the Speculative Fiction tag. I’ve had pretty good numbers, such as having almost 500 claps on a poem of mine. So, I was pretty confident that I could be one of the 1,000 writers. It’s not in the thousands, but I would surmise that I am doing quite well here. There is a clear market for the work I create.
However, once I saw an article about a bit of bonus in June, I went to check my stats. I received nothing on top of my monthly earnings, and I was surprised and disappointed. I will not pretend I don’t deserve to be rewarded because that would be a lie. We as writers spend so much mental energy on creating these pieces for people to enjoy, so it is pretty startling when I see people trying to tell us that we didn’t deserve it.
On another platform, demanding to be compensated is considered the right thing, whereas here, it’s taboo. When you have received the special bonus, it’s easy for you to keep telling people it will happen, but the truth is that it probably won’t. It’s a lottery here, and I don’t blame people for leaving the platform.
Just like any other job, if you don’t feel appreciated, why would you stay? Imagine a scenario where you’ve done just as much work as your other colleague, and you are both in line for a promotion. The outcome is that your other colleague gets the promotion, and your boss says that they did more work when that is not true.
In my experience, I am not appreciated, which is a regular occurrence for writers. This platform is very competitive, and I think that unless you joined a year ago, you’d find it challenging to earn thousands. We’d all love to be one of the lucky few, and we must remember that luck plays a significant role in your success here.
