We Eagerly Await Your Art
More importantly, we’re craving your energy even if we’ve never experienced it before.
You’re a writer, so write. This gorgeous guidance from my beautiful mother was so simple yet overflowing with certainty and encouragement that it has carried me through decades of hesitation. I’m not unique in my uncertainty to step into my talent fully. Our talents are the reasons we have been sent to occupy space on this planet. I’m too shy to sing aloud publicly (of course I think I can sing; I’m Filipina) and too injured to dance from my full potential, so my writing’s what we’ve got. Luckily, when I tap these keys or move that pen, I’m in my element. What you create while you’re in your element is your gift.
We Deserve to Bask in Your Talents
I can feel your reluctance, but I’m gonna go ahead and wear my selfish hat here: there are countless of us waiting for your flavor of inspiration. Your unique ability is just the thing that may animate or save us. Your contribution to the creative collective is essentially vital, regardless of the lies you’ve been told about your perceived limitations.
There’s a phenomenon that occurs when you step into your authenticity and purpose: you empower us to do the same. We become conduits for the love and energy you infuse into your art, creating a ripple effect of creativity and inspiration.
It takes great courage to do this work. The risk of sharing our creative output with the world requires a vulnerability that very few are willing to express. One doesn’t need to be great to step into their creative potential; one only needs to act upon the decision to begin.
From Idea to Inspiration
Analysis paralysis is real. I’ve been there. I’m quite familiar with the grips of overthinking and the inaction that entails spending too much time with the voice that whispers, “Not yet.” The countless opportunities that are wasted while one ruminates upon the perfect time to act are nothing less than static tragedies.
Procrastination is the lie we tell ourselves as a way to delay the inevitable. Inevitably, we privately release our art in a journal or diary, we dance alone, or perhaps we sing in the solitude of our shower. We each experience the overflowing of the work that begs to be released. The talent will fight its way out. Don’t stifle your gifts because those gifts — your purpose — are meant to be shared!
What Are You Waiting For?
Perfection is the greatest enemy of progress. Nothing will ever be perfect. Show me a work of art that’s been deemed perfect by all who have seen it. Is there a perfect book? Has the perfect story been told? Have you ever heard the perfect song?
The act of creation is an exercise in attempting perfection. This is why the energy infused into creative works is so important. The earnestness of the attempt to reach the height of expression attracts the right audience. Although some might argue that their favorite work of art, book, or song they crave is perfection, there’s a critic who inevitably awaits the moment to unleash hate upon the piece.
We creators, writers, and artists understand that it’s impossible to please everyone. For someone, somewhere, our creativity won’t be good enough, and that’s perfectly fine. Our art isn’t for everyone. We’re not for everyone.
When our words reach the right people, they will recognize us and know it. The ones who’ll inevitably connect to our work are those for whom we create. Not everyone will get it, and this is a good thing.
It’s Never Too Late
There are many excuses we give ourselves to diminish the potential impact of our gifts. Life is too busy. Our loved ones depend on us. Our job takes up too much time and energy. Regardless of how true these may be, we must recognize that we have gifts that are waiting to be shared. As we keep them on the back burner, we’ll eventually experience the bubbling over resulting from repressed emotions connected to stifled artistic expression.
Denying our true expressive nature will eventually feel impossible and unnatural. For as long as we’re able to step into our creativity, regardless of the years we’ve collected or the careers we’ve established, it’s never too late to share our gifts with the world.
I, for one, can’t wait to be inspired by your work, words, and art.
Thank you so much for spending time with me.
