We Do Not Need More Information About Climate Change

We need compassion, empathy and a social structure driven by prosocial values rather than one driven by self-interest.

For the last few thousand years we have prospered to a large extent because of the prosocial values of Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and other mainstream religions.

The rise of science challenged the authority of religion. In the 19th century, Nietzsche was ahead of his time in recognizing the modern dilemma.

Without God to guide us we face a increasingly bleak future. He foresaw much of what we are struggling with today.

Instead of teaching us to love one another and follow the guidance of our conscience, the role of religion has largely been reduced to taking a stand against the forces that threaten its no longer relevant authority.

It continues to resist change, deny science, and is becoming increasingly less relevant in world which it is no longer capable of providing guidance.

We need to relearn how to love one another and begin once again listening to that still quiet voice that would guide us toward a path of peace and stability.

We need to learn how to quiet the persistent voice that would lead us down the destructive path of self-interest without values.

We can do a better job of fighting the current pandemic.

We can put an end to systemic racism.

We can design better economic and political systems.

We can reverse the course of climate change, or a least lessen its impact.

More scientific information will not help us. All of these things and more are going to get worse.

There is very little we can do about them if we continue to live in a self-centered world without values.
