The Fragility of Human Nature

We can recognize that we’ve fallen short of what we should have been

But once we do, will the world allow us all to be human once again?

Many mistakes and unfortunate decisions have often been made

But who of us in our ignorance understands how this game is played?

How can we stand so straight, when crippled? How can we be so strong?

It’s not easy to know what’s wrong. Why must we struggle to get along?

We are not superhuman, where all our feelings we can suppress,

We are only poor fools on a difficult, restive search for happiness,

We want to thrive as others do, share their experience of living,

As we meander through our lives to capture the joy in giving!

Many places, many opportunities, we all have yearned to see!

We hope to wake up knowing that every day we will be free!

None of us is perfect, our humanity is fragile and we are weak,

It is a struggle to navigate the many tributaries we all must seek,

Even when opportunity knocks, we often won’t heed the call,

We all have to deal with the pride that precedes the final fall,

We’re human after all, fragile and broken, lost and confused,

If we could step back for a brief moment we might become amused!

But for most of us, life leaves us damaged and even love-abused!

In the middle of it all, when we can’t help but crawl, comes reflection,

Then comes correction, a pause, and reassessment for a new direction,

To become better humans, growing in wisdom and the power to discern,

But we hope and yearn in the middle of it, the truth to finally learn!

And if we must fall, we won’t don’t want to be alone, with allies on our side,

with those who will truly love us with all our flaws for who we are inside!

Let us find the strength within, despite mistakes, to Sing a Song of hope,

And find within ourselves the tools we need to find the best ways to cope!

To find the best path forward, a way of peace, and joy, and conciliation,

where we find common ground and an outcome leading to celebration,

To nourish a wish to be on a path forward that makes us all free!
