We Are More Than Our Labels

And how we can transcend them to lead a more fulfilling life

Recently I went to a shamanic healing ceremony. It was to receive one of the Munay-Ki rites.

The one I received was the Rite of the Womb. These rites come from a lineage of women in the jungles of Peru. And the message has been to transmit them to as many women as possible to heal them of all suffering they carry in their belly.

This lineage of women wants us to remember:

“The womb is not a place to store fear and pain; the womb is to create and give birth to life. Let’s heal our womb; let’s heal our mother’s, sister’s, and daughter’s wombs. And in this way bring healing to our Mother Earth.”

I chose to receive the rite in a sacred feminine circle.

The more I connect to my truth and ancestral lineage. The more I feel pulled to connect with women in circle.

Something that we have lost in our western world, but as we ascend into a New Earth, the potency of these circles is becoming increasingly apparent.

When I was at the ceremony we completed a range of healing and empowering exercises together before we were ready to receive the Rite of the Womb.

And one of those exercises was to write down all the labels that we use to define ourselves.

These were all the ones I wrote:

I am a daughter.

I am a granddaughter.

I am a sister.

I am a cousin.

I am a niece.

I am a girlfriend.

I am a friend.

I am an educator.

I am a writer.

I am a creative.

I am a stylist.

I am a guide.

I am a leader.

I am a lightworker.

We were then asked to highlight which roles we think allow us to grow, and which ones we feel keep us stuck, or hold us back.

It was a powerful exercise.

And then we were reminded, all of these labels are just words and they don’t actually have any meaning. Just the meaning we give to them.

Above all, I am ME. These labels are just words, they don’t define me.

I’ve always struggled to define what I do. Especially since working online. I never felt like I could be just one thing, because I’m passionate about sooo many things.

Niche to me was just another term for box.

We live in a world that is hellbent on keeping us small. Labelling us, fitting us in boxes. Telling us this is your role and that’s it.

We’re taught to hide our true selves.

You’re too big. You’re too small. You’re too loud. You’re too this! You’re too that!

Or on the flip, you’re not enough this…

It always bothered me that the first question people asked me was “what do you do?”

Like our whole value in life comes down to one word.

And nowadays what does that even mean? We live in a world where the government is determining who is essential or not. How wrong is that?!

Your value and worth in this world is not determined by your job.

You are essential no matter what.

We are so much more than our labels.

This is a concept I also came across in Eckhart Tolle’s book, A New Earth, and it really spoke to me.

He says:

“We react out of situations not out of the actual present moment.”

He also goes on to say that:

“the more we label, the more shallow and lifeless our reality becomes”.

Sounds pretty depressing, but it’s so true in our 3D lives. Everything we do is defined by labels. All the separation in our world comes down to us having to label things in a certain way.

Religion, race, sex, political stance. All of it is labels. Labels created by people who want to keep us divided.

And it’s only once we start to look beyond these things that we truly start to see all the wonder and beauty in the world, and within ourselves.

We are infinite, multidimensional beings having a human experience.

We are connected.

We are one.

We are the earth.

We are the universe.

We are it all.

When you truly start to REMEMBER who you are, you start to look way beyond labels.

There’s a realisation, a knowing, an understanding. I AM ME. You are YOU.

Quite simply put, I Am.

That’s it. No labels.

A fluid, beautiful, transient being having any number of experiences in this lifetime.

You can be anything you want to be.

And you should never feel like you need to hide yourself away in shame of what others might think.

You are here to take up space.

You are here to be seen.

You are here to use your voice. Get loud. Stand up for what you believe.

And be proud to show the world who you are.

Take some time to remember… who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
