We Are in Crisis. You are Not Beneath Working a Simple Job
Get off your high horse and scour the job market

The 2020 coronavirus crisis is affecting all of us — not just health-wise, but financially. Some of us are doing better than others, but that doesn’t change the fact many people lost their jobs. A total of 36.5 million Americans applied for unemployment benefits as of May 14, 2020. That figure represents 22.4% of the current labor force, which means almost a quarter of the country is effectively unemployed.
It doesn’t matter if you retained your job or were laid off — the bills didn’t vanish. Your mortgage is still due, and the grocery store doesn’t care if you are employed or not when you show up to buy food. You need cash to keep living. You are in dire need of money.
Some of us resorted to working as food delivery drivers, grocery clerks and temporary customer service agents. All of those are typical jobs for many people. However, there are individuals from certain socioeconomic backgrounds who consider service-related work beneath them. I am here to tell them to suck it up and stop complaining.

You are Not Too Good to Be a Delivery Driver
When you’re used to a particular lifestyle, it’s hard to change habits. Maybe you were a low-income individual in the past, and now your fear of going back to that catches on to you. It’s emotionally and psychologically challenging, there is no point in denying that. But we are currently in an economic crisis considered to be the worst one since the Great Depression, as per NY Times economists.
Such economic downturns don’t happen often. We witnessed it in 2008, and it’s happening again — although nature is entirely different. It’s a shock for everyone, but we need to climb our way out of this in order to survive. We need to look for new ways to keep up with bills and carry on with our lives. Sometimes it means accepting a job which is paid much less compared to your previous one.
You Have Career Options Even During a Crisis
Unless you have unique circumstances, such as health issues or difficult family situations, you most likely have multiple career options, even if it’s a temporary career.
Several career fields are experiencing a reduced labor demand, while others are booming. Almost everyone switched to working from home, and online services are in demand. You can find a job at a warehouse, or as a postal service driver, or a FedEx specialist. Grocery stores are looking for help, so as call centers. Uber drivers may not see many driving requests, but Uber Eats is overwhelmed with orders. Grocery delivery services are extremely popular right now — hop on that train!
The Higher the Pedestal, The Higher They Fall
This old saying perfectly describes high-earning individuals who are panicking about their work prospects. If you used to make six figures, you might not be able to do that this year. Unfortunately, this is reality, and you need to accept it.
Keep looking for a high-paying job. But in the meantime, you need to buy food and pay for your necessities. Stop complaining and get an everyday, blue-collar work. Your principles aren’t worth going hungry and making your family struggle.
Get Creative and Read the News
Creativity and imagination are crucial when looking for sources of financial help. If you don’t want to drive around with beer packs and frozen meats, you have options. Finding out which industries are booming is one Google search away.
According to TheConversation.com, e-commerce is thriving during the pandemic. This is the perfect time to start your online store! Alternatively, Amazon can be your friend to resell the merchandise. Uschamber.com reports that cleaning services are currently in demand. No, you are not too good to clean offices if you urgently need money.
Come up unique job opportunities. Maybe someone is paying for online conversations to keep them company during the social isolation.

Learn New Skills
Remember how you’ve always said you have no time to learn photography? Congratulations: now you do! You can also excel in coding, cooking, baking and other marketable skills. Depending on the progress, you can potentially monetize them.
Many online educational platforms are offering free and low-cost classes. Take advantage of that. You may not have the time once the economy is back to normal.
Don’t Look Down on People Again
In the perfect world, no one has the moral right to look down on others. If you’re a successful attorney, you have no right to consider yourself better than a cleaner or a line chef. We are all equal, and you should not think you’re better than some.
We have the best jobs we can possibly get — either due to circumstances or generally. So, stop wasting your time crying over the excellent position and all the perks you used to have. It’s time for action. If you need to feed your family — hop on the job searching website and consider every position.
