We All Have Collective Trauma
Reblogging my greatest hits so you don’t have to.

COVID-19, as a global pandemic, has had a profound impact on people’s lives, causing widespread trauma in various forms:
- Fears/Grief /Loss— The fear of contracting the virus, experiencing the illness firsthand, or seeing loved ones suffer has a significant emotional and psychological impact. The loss of life brought grief and mourning on an unprecedented scale. Many people experienced the loss of friends or family members to the virus. The restrictions on gatherings also meant that many could not grieve or conduct funerals in traditional ways, complicating the mourning process.
- Financial — Many individuals and families face economic hardship due to job losses, reduced hours, or business closures. This financial instability and uncertainty about the future caused significant stress and anxiety.
- Isolation- Lockdowns, social distancing, and restrictions on gatherings led to a sense of isolation. The lack of physical contact and social interaction affected mental well-being, leading to feelings of loneliness and depression.
- Mental Health- The cumulative effect of health fears, financial stress, and social isolation led to increased rates of anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. Many people experience heightened stress levels, sleep disturbances, and feelings of helplessness.
- Disruption- The pandemic disrupted daily routines, including work, education, and social activities. This loss of structure and normalcy was disorienting and distressing for many.
- Long-term — Some people, known as “long haulers,” experience long-term effects of COVID-19, leading to ongoing physical and psychological trauma.
- Child Development- The closure of schools and recreational activities significantly impacted the social and educational development of children and youth, leading to potential long-term consequences.
The pandemic’s impact has been universal, and together we shoulder the burden of collective, and maybe unnoticed trauma.
For me, the pandemic drastically impacted my life to the point where I don’t know what my future would’ve been like, but likely without the pandemic, I would be much happier.
Things are never perfect and you have to take things day by day.. but I’ve been struggling both personally and professionally to lead my best life since January 2020.
I can’t think of a time when things were normal, but I’m assuming it’s around when this photo was taken.
I don’t think I have trauma, but they say that a part of trauma is mourning who used to be.
RIP old Rhiannon. I guess this is a new era.
