With the current course of the COVID-19 pandemic and the recurrent outbreaks, it is apparent that the virus is here to stay for the long haul. You’d never know when, where, or how soon you will pick it up.

If you want to stay strong and beat the virus, the number thing to do is to ramp up your immunity.

Here are some natural ways to strengthen your immunity and protect yourself from the COVID-19 virus.

1) Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables.

This is key to a healthy diet. Eating different types of fruits and vegetables every day will keep you healthy and strong. They are packed with vitamins and fiber your body needs to maintain a healthy immune system. Pick your favorite combination of fruits and vegetables and stick to them — the more variety, the better.

Tip: If you have a NutriBullet, you can blend them into a healthy smoothie drink.

2) Make a habit to exercise regularly.

Choose to exercise outdoors as opposed to indoors.

The outdoor option gives you the added benefits of fresh air and sunlight. Exposure to sunlight will boost your immune system and help you fight the virus. So skip the GYM and head outdoors.

Some ways to get your exercise outdoors is by simply walking for at least 30 mins a day, jogging, playing sports like basketball, hiking, gardening. If it gets too hot over summer, plan your exercise early morning before noon or evening after 7 pm.

3) Take a daily dose of vitamin C.

I like to supplement my diet with the Emergen-C supplement — it comes in powder form that you can easily mix with water and drink it. You can drink it every day or every other day, whichever you prefer.

4) Avoid saturated fats and hydrogenated oils.

Eat foods that are baked or steamed and eat fried foods in moderation. If you do decide to go for fried food, cook it in a healthy oil such as Olive oil or Grapeseed oil.

5) Limit the use of refined flours and sugars.

Eating too much white flour will compromise your immune system. Try to eat more whole-grain foods that have fiber, such as whole-grain bread and fiber-rich snacks.

The same goes for sugar. White sugar is the number one culprit of diseases and can sabotage your immune system. Limit your sugar intake and opt for a natural sweetener such as Stevia. I’ve limited my sugar intake for six months in a row and I haven’t been down with any infections since winter.

Tip: Squeeze lemon into 1 cup of water and add 2 teaspoons of Stevia and you’ve got a refreshing quench-thirsting lemonade perfect to drink all summer long.

6) Eat one clove of garlic a day.

Garlic is a natural immune system booster, and so eating it every day will give you added protection. I know you may not like its smell and pungent odor, but there are ways to kill off that smell and freshen your breath after you eat it — munch on a piece of celery or lettuce.

Follow these tips every day to stay healthy and strong. While the virus will not go away any time soon, you can take the steps and strengthen the immune system that will help you fight it off.
