Dopamine is a chemical messenger in the brain know as the “Feel — good hormone".
It’s also also involved in the motivation, memory, attention and regulating body movements.
When Dopamine is released it creates feelings of pleasure, bliss, satisfaction, and motivates you to repeat a specific habits go persist in your life’s pursuits.
When I was severely depressed, there were a number of things that eased my "pain" even though they didn’t make it go away. However, if he relieved himself, it was already a hope that everything was going to be fine and knowing this helped me too.
