Watercolor Journey

Painting a kingfisher

Watercolor painting by author

After some trial and error, I can say that I enjoy watercolor paints. I am not sure they can replace my love for acrylic paint. Time will tell.

Note to anyone else who would like to try watercolors. Please don’t do what I did. I dove in with my limited knowledge, which caused frustration. However, those failing moments can teach the best lessons. If you prefer less frustration, then there are multiple channels on YouTube that you can follow.

I painted a few birds in acrylic, and I challenged myself to paint one in watercolor. I came across a picture of a kingfisher on Pixabay (see below). It immediately caught my attention because of its bright colors.

One of my main issues with watercolor was understanding how much water to use. Sometimes I used too much, making the colors dull while it bled into the paper. Other times I used too little. It’s still a learning process as my artistic journey continues. I am happy with the outcome and looking forward to more improvements.

I want to thank all of my readers and friends here on Medium who have supported my work. Without you, my written words would not have had an impact. I appreciate you all. Because of you, I am now a top writer in Art.
