Watch This, I Bet You Will Laugh
A duck tale
Sometimes a great tale and a good laugh are all the fun we need for the day. This tale started with a female mallard duck, a hen floating on a small lake.

There she was. Maybe alone. Moving away from me as soon as she noticed I was approaching the shore. She was not as interested in a photoshoot as I was.
Then I noticed there was a drake, the male mallard. He started gliding across the water as swiftly as possible to come to her aid.

But, he had other plans. They met up and made a quick left turn. It appeared that he was bringing her right to the shoreline to meet me.

They were coming in quickly. As they approached, he directed her to put her head down. He wanted to be the center of attention.

He stepped up onto a submerged log that became his stage.

He started with a bit of stretching and preening. making sure everything was properly in place.

She peeked up to see if he was really going to do this…again. She was so embarrassed.

He looked away, ignoring her feelings and flexing his beauty.

He played shy.

Then, established eye contact with a coy glance.

He clapped his beak, the equivalent of the licking of the lips, I think.

He must have received the memo that no sexy photoshoot is complete without slinging some water to emphasize the sex appeal and seal the deal.

Then, suddenly, after several shakes of his tail feathers, he set sail.

He glided away with his tail high, happy with his performance.

I thought my creature engagements for the day had ended with the black vultures and the cats at the other end of the lake. I was ok with letting this drake save his hen so they could slide off into the sunset unbothered, enjoying the lovely evening together. But, I am glad to have had a good laugh!
Did you laugh?
