Summary

The web content presents a poignant poem by Kevin, inspired by Henery X's call to action regarding the environmental crisis, reflecting on humanity's destructive impact on the world and the eventual retribution through nature's resurgence.

Abstract

The poem "Washing Away Our Sins" by Kevin, published on the undefined website, is a profound lamentation over humanity's mistreatment of the Earth. It echoes the sentiments of Henery X's prompt, which urges a collective awakening to the environmental devastation we have wrought. The poem vividly depicts the consequences of human greed and violence, symbolized by the heavens weeping and the resulting floods that destroy our constructed fortresses. It suggests that nature will ultimately prevail, and humanity's legacy of sin will be washed away, affecting everyone from peasants to kings. Kevin, who is also an editor and writer for ILLUMINATION and Polyglot Poetry, uses powerful imagery to convey the urgency of our environmental predicament and the shared responsibility we bear for the planet's future.

Opinions

  • The author believes that humanity's destructive actions, such as pollution and violence, are leading to environmental catastrophe.
  • There is a sense of inevitability that nature will eventually reclaim what has been lost, suggesting a cycle of human error and natural correction.
  • The poem implies that all of humanity, regardless of social status, will face the consequences of our environmental neglect.
  • The author emphasizes the interconnectedness of all people in both causing and suffering from the degradation of our planet.
  • The use of the term "final baptize" indicates a moral and spiritual dimension to the environmental crisis, framing ecological destruction as a sin against nature and humanity.

Poetry — About the sad state of our world

The following poem is my response to a prompt by Henery X (long), writing a wake-up call to how we mistreat our world and continue to destroy our home. Here is his original entry:

In the end, nature always prevails. It’s humanity that will die out one day as a consequence.

Look up into the sky These aren’t tears of joy The heaven’s heavy cry Floods start to destroy

Our human fortresses Our castles of glass Pride comes before the fall We are sinking in morass

Sins of our fathers Sins of our sons Our greed, destroying nature Killing humans with guns

We soaked the soil in blood Until it got yieldable and moist Now the reckoning has come The waters start to rise

The water’s turning red Now we pay the price Crying for forgiveness Upon the final baptize

Drowning in our past Both peasants and kings We were deaf to her pleas Now she washes away our sins
