Was This a Scam From a Food Delivery Service?
It sounded absolutely too good to be true
Having food delivered has become very popular
Some restaurants such as pizza places have long provided delivery service. Almost all restaurants now can have their food delivered through various driving services. Even bicycles are used for the deliveries. It has been an especially popular method of getting food since the COVID pandemic.
Many people have made it a regular practice to order food through the phone, apps, or computers.
Delivery services have made food more accessible to people who do not want to leave their homes. They also have provided employment for many drivers who deliver the prepared food from restaurants. Even fast food restaurants use the delivery servicea.
When restaurants were closed for COVID and had only delivery service, many people did have food delivered regularly.
There is a lot of information warning consumers about scams. These are messages which can come by phone calls, texts, emails, or social media outlets which try to get people to reply. Unfamiliar numbers and businesses should not receive a response, but sometimes the messages sound so real and tempting.
One such possible scam was received through a text to a man who had never used the service. It was a reputable and well known company. The offer would have been tempting to accept if it had not seemed so unbelievable.
All the person had to do was put a sign for the delivery service in the window of his vehicle. He would just drive around normally so that people could see the advertising. It was offering $500 per week to do it. That sounds like extremely easy money — and it sounds totally like a scam.
The man did not do it. He tried to contact the company, but he could not find a phone number on their website. He sent an email to an address provided and never received an answer. If it happened to be a real offer, he may be sorry he passed it up. Easy money like that seldom comes through. It would be too good to be true.
He did suspect a scam right away so he did not click on the link or call back the number that was provided. The scammers have ways to cheat people who respond to them in any way.
There are so many scams, and some look so legitimate as they use the logos of actual companies. It is best to be leery of them and be very careful.
