Warning! Someone Stole My Identity On Medium
Medium is experiencing an impersonation spam attack right now. I’m shocked. We need a verified checkmark.

Please be aware that I (Kristina God) am a victim of identity theft on Medium.
A fellow writer just informed me that there’s someone using...
- my name
- photo
- and bio
… to leave comments to promote crypto.
❌In the image below, you can see that my identity has been misused.

This feels so scary!
The elephant in the room is the question:
How is this possible?
This question goes out to Medium Medium Staff.
I’ve already informed Arthur from Medium’s Help Desk.
Additionally, I reported the account as spam.
However, I am really shocked.
This person could leave hateful, defamatory statements in the future
Of course, no one is liable for the actions of others, but the victim must prove in each individual case that he or she was not the originator of the order, the criminal store, or the defamatory statement.
And that can incur costs, for example, if a lawyer is called in to help. Telekom about identity theft
❌Medium accounts that impersonate other people or public figures should strictly go against Medium’s Rules and shouldn’t be allowed here BEFORE they can open an account!
We need a verified badge or checkmark!
A few years ago, I was an influencer on Instagram.
Instagram can be a dark hole so I was glad about this feature I’d like to recommend Medium’s Product Team.
On Instagram as well as on Twitter, Facebook, and so on, there’s a so-called verified checkmark you can apply for.
It looks like this:

- A verified badge is a check that appears next to your account’s name in search and on the profile.
It means the platform has confirmed that an account is the authentic presence of the person it represents.
The verified badge is a tool to help people find the real accounts of people.
Once verified, you may not change the username on your account, and verification cannot be transferred to a different account. Instagram’s Rules
Final Takeaways
An impersonation spam attack could happen to you, too.
“We are experiencing an impersonation spam attack.” Medium‘s Trust & Safety Officers informed me a few minutes ago via email.
Medium has suspended the violating account, I was referring to:

“These are only impersonation accounts, and the original accounts have not been compromised.” Trust & Safety states in the email.
So please report any impersonation spam you see right now.
Click on the “…” (three-dot-menu) in the footer of the story or at the top-right of the violating account and choose “REPORT”.
