Warning of Interference
A series of science fiction haikus
Hello all; I am here
in true corporeal form,
from a distant year.
Do not be afraid;
I do not seek to harm you.
This is a warning.
To the people of
money and of influence:
pay close attention.
To the people of
science and of politics:
pay close attention.
Your past ethical
debates lacked important facts
of your own future.
The distant future
is entropy because of
your careless mistakes.
Curiosity!
Praised, but gone unchecked,
perhaps dangerous.
Gene splicing led us
to the forefront of controlled
evolution, but…
The frontal cortex
of each animal brain has
increased in function.
You gave animals
intelligence and power
… and autonomy.
You never controlled
your own population count
and they want the same.
We are struggling to
allocate our resources
amongst all species.
(This one earth cannot
handle the weight of more
cognizant creatures!)
No more hunting or
meat-eating, and we compete
for the small farmlands.
Overnight changes
required fast reform of all
governments’ systems.
The people’s backlash
and interspecies violence
no one predicted.
Animals now have
logic and judgment but are
emotional still.
They had purity
in their emotions, and you
valued them for it!
So many of them
still, with childlike innocence,
ask why? tearfully.
It is not merely
humans against creatures,
but a civil war.
While some animals
remain protected, others
fight with “safe” humans.
Human families
are torn into the savers
and supremacists.
And did you even think
of the scary potential
of bestiality?
I come to you now
so you can prevent the path
of global losses.
Interference of
other species for the sake
of your own knowledge?
Stick to the treating,
the healing and the fixing,
maintaining your health.
Get used to questions
going unanswered, because
no one wants the truth.
What you once thought as
potential for harmony,
only brought discord.
All of this chaos,
because you asked, “what if our
pets could talk to us?”
