PEACE AND WAR
War Is a Cowardly Escape from the Problem Of Peace (Thomas Mann)
Russia is deploying “peacekeeping” forces in Ukraine to “protect” the people and the country against the democratically elected government.

1984 — “War is Peace”
George Orwell’s masterpiece, 1984, first published in 1949, shows, among other things, different ways in which despots and other people in power can manipulate man.
In the novel, George Orwell lets the authoritarian government in a society 35 years ahead brainwash the inhabitants of the country through constantly repeated propaganda plays. Through ever-repeated statements from loudspeakers established all over the city, the new “truths” that the people are to believe in are constantly called out:
“War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength.”

This claim about peace from 1984 is the central theme throughout the novel.
Through manipulation and destruction of words and their meaning, the dictatorial rulers want to add new content to “old” and accepted truths.
Lately we have seen the same thing from Russia, when the Russian president announces that Russia is deploying “peacekeeping” forces in Ukraine to “protect” the people and the country against the democratically elected government.
Welcome to 1984!
