Want Your Writing To Never Flop Again?

Try this five-minute hack for views

There are two major metrics you should be tracking for engagement in your content, social media or writing: views and read-throughs.

On Medium, one of the surefire ways to increase views (which subsequently will also increase read-throughs) is to write killer amazing headlines.

All this time, before Aimée Gramblin pointed this out to me, I had been suffering alone, writing bad headlines. Envision: crumpled pieces of paper strewn all over the workspace in mind.

Use A Headline Analyzer!

Turns out the solution to increasing views is to consider using a headline analyzer! Surely, someone has already programmed some form of tech or AI to solve this problem right?

Websites like Coscheduler’s Free Headline Analyzer give a brief analysis on how your headline might grab someone’s attention, including metrics for:

  • how common your headline is
  • how uncommon your headline is
  • how emotional your headline is
  • how powerful your headline is

These are important pointers for additional pieces to add to your headline if you’re finding that you’re consistently missing that pizzaz.

Put it Into Action!

When creating a headline, come up with three to five potential headlines. Just write them down, don’t think too hard about them.

Input it into the analyzer, and pick the one with the highest score. I’m learning to aim for something that’s up in the 70s-80s range wherever possible.

Here’s hoping that your writing feels more like this image than the crumpled paper that used to lounge around in my brain.
