Want to start on your language learning journey? Here is what worked for me

Language learning seems daunting with so many things and words to learn. Most people don't know where to start but I got your back. Here are some tips on taking the right direction to achieve your language learning dreams.

Pimsleur allows users to learn by speaking from the get-go. It's scientifically proven to help you succeed in learning a language over the long term. I found learning Arabic very well structured from learning numbers to having an abundance of vocabulary and interacting with people.

It Incorporates Active recall and spaced repetition as well.

What is Active recall?

Active recall is the practice of having questions on a topic and then testing yourself repeatedly. However, you also have to space out your sessions otherwise you will forget.

The more you review the content the higher percentage of retention. As a result, it will be in your long-term memory.

Listen to pure Arabic conversations or audio 👂

This makes it easier for your brain to be familiarised with the language.

Your brain is a pattern recognition machine. Therefore, the more you immerse yourself, the easier it will be to pronounce and formulate different phrases in your brain

Review Vocabulary 📕

If you want to learn colours, seasons or numbers watching videos on them won't help to retain them. Memorisation tools such as Anki Cards can help. It's a flashcard-based app which students use to learn languages and study for exams. Very popular among medical students. It incorporates Active recall and spaced repetition once again.

Wrapping up

I believe anyone can learn a language with discipline and consistency. There has to be a balance — Immersing yourself in the language and also having a structured course avoid procrastinating and be time-efficient.
