Want To Share More Love In 2022?
Pass on my gift — a love poem. Or try my “love” writing exercise.
The love that I have for my life, and others who have touched me, allows me to mount up as on an eagle’s wings, and my spirit reaches heights that I have nevertofor known.
I am actually working on sharing love. I realize that probably sounds a little strange. Strange or not, so it is. For the past two weeks, every morning, as I journal, I write about all the things I love. Just something quick, maybe three lines or so. You might see this as an application of gratitude, and it certainly is. But I specifically use the word “love”. I can see the positive results in my life already.
My Love Exercise
My process is that I write the word “love” over and over again in my journal. For example, I will write:
I love that I love my wife. I love that I am warm inside today, it is really cold outside. It is great that I love my dog, he is wonderful. I love being able to take just a few moments to express my love.
You get the idea, right?
How long does that take? Maybe one or two minutes in the morning, not much more. What are my rewards? Well, in all honesty, I have had one of the best Christmas seasons I can remember having. I really feel more relaxed, spontaneous, and grateful for the small things.
After doing this for the last little while, I have taken my “love language” a little farther. I have written a love poem for my wife, which is unlike me.
My wife’s birthday comes around this time of year. What is coincidental is that our marriage anniversary, her birthday, and Christmas all happen at about the same time. It leaves me with an interesting challenge. What do I get her for all of those wonderful celebrations?
This year I have decided to write her a poem. My “love” exercise seems to have put me in a writing mood these days.
My Love Poem
So here is one of the very few poems I have ever written. I extend this gift to my wife, but pass it on if you wish…
I Love Thee
How do I love thee? Let me count the way. More than the reaper loves the soft golden hay. More than the seed loves the rain in times of spring. More than the bride loves her third finger’s ring. More than the eagle loves the white-footed hare. More than the tree loves the cold humid air. How do I love thee… More than a human heart could ever know.
Love can be a very healing emotion. With all that is going on in the world today, sharing some of that precious commodity may turn on a light in someone’s life. If you think my poem might brighten the day of another, please share it. Maybe think of it as a belated Christmas present from me to you. I personally wish the best for you.
You might also want to try my “love” writing exercise. The results may surprise you. I have found it takes about 7 to 10 days of doing my “love writing” technique to start to feel or notice any difference. Warning: your individual results may vary. ;-)
Benefits Of Expressing and Feeling Love
According to Barton Goldsmith Ph.D., I am on the right track. Goldsmith wrote an article for Psychology Today and states that:
- “Love gives you energy… you feel like doing more.
- Love makes you feel better… even if you are in perfect health.
- Love enhances creativity. The greatest poems, music, and perhaps newspaper columns have been inspired by love.
- Love makes you feel validated. The validation that we receive from love is simple; love reminds us that we are not all alone.
- Love helps you grow. We grow more when we are in relationships than when we are alone.
- Love makes you want to do nice things. Love has a way of making you feel generous.”
All the best to all of my followers and everyone at Medium.
Hoping all is well with you.
With All My Love, Max.
