Want To Know How To Increase Your Face Value?
It doesn’t involve your phone
I walked this morning sans Finn (yes, I do that occasionally) and made a remarkable find.
Strolling down a side street in our neighborhood, I saw a woman approaching me. Her dog was off-leash and behind her.
What do you suppose she was doing as she walked? Yep.
I can have a challenging time walking and paying attention to things that may put me on my backside without the distraction of a digital device.
I looked at what I could see on her face, looking down, and deduced that she looked tired. I’m sorry to say, but she seemed almost lifeless.
Anyway, as I got closer to her, as I’m fond of doing, at the appropriate time of day, I said, “Hola, Buenos dias.”
When she looked up to return the greeting, she smiled.
Bingo!
Instant human connection because of that simple gesture. An immediate bond between the two of us.
No, not that kind. I’m not out cruising the streets for another Mrs. H. One is ample. Haha!
A smile, folks, is not only an ice-breaker of sorts, but, more importantly, it shows the person receiving it a friendly, non-physical hand-shake.
Do you know what else she accomplished by offering that smile?
She provided ‘face value.’
So, for all of you who wonder how best to make those connections that many of us still treasure, look no further than up instead of down and smile at those around you.
By doing so, you’ve invested in yourself because it feels good and gifted a stranger valuable, positive human interaction.
It might be the only time they receive it that day.
Put your phone in your pocket; you don’t need it to take a walk. It makes you look like a droid; we already see too many of those here.
My appreciation for you is never-ending.
