Want To Go Viral, Express Your Polarized Views And Share Your Experience!
I figured out this mantra from my viral posts
I am quite naive in the world of blogging. I am new to the platform and have written only around 60 blogs till now.
This is my first story about writing on Medium.
I have written stories related to technology and travel before. Most of my stories are chosen for further distribution, a few got less than 100 views and 4–5 got tens of thousands of views.
Here are 3 takeaways from my most viewed stories:
Polarized opinion
The post went viral and earned me more than $400 and it's still going strong. I got more than 100 fans and received quite a few nasty comments against my opinion.
This story was not made up. This was my real experience and expressed my opinion about “googling in an online interview”.
Most of the readers who commented did not agree with my opinion and expressed their thoughts as well.
I got a little disappointed in the beginning, but later I took these comments as advice and ignored the lame ones.
Negative comments don’t matter. What many online platforms care about is how many people are reading your articles.
Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, so are you.
So don’t be shy/afraid of sharing your views.
Don’t choose a very specific topic
I have written good stories on specific topics like how to do a specific task in a specific programming language/framework. These are useful to someone who has faced such a problem, most of the readers ignore these.
On the other hand, I published stories that are more generic and philosophical. These stories have done well for me. A few of such stories are like this
- 6 Step Approach To Transition From Junior Developer To Senior Developer
- 5 Most Important Traits I Look For When I Hire A Developer
- 7 Aspects Of Design That Make Its Review More Important Than That Of Code
We all know how a good title can catch eyeballs. The same rule applies here. If your title appeals to more readers you will get more views.
Share your experience
Your experience matters along with your opinion. Readers are interested in your story, how you solved a problem, and your life experiences.
Readers are not looking for your advice, they need to be engaged in the story. This engagement comes from your personal experience.
Conclusion
There are so-called basic rules that make your post stand out:
- Catchy headline
- Delivering value
- Engaging storytelling
- Great banner
- Chosen for further distribution
- and many more.
These are necessary to make the story compelling and look nice.
The points I have mentioned in this article are the reasons for my viral posts. This is my point of view, you might have your own.
