Want to Create Online? Ignore All the “Expert” Tips and Advice

Until you have momentum, habits, and a routine — ignore the so-called expert advice.

I love to read.

I love to learn.

I have a hard time actually “doing” when I’m distracted by reading and learning.

On my journey as a content creator (aka writer and wannabe YouTuber) I realize I spend all my time learning from the experts on what they did and what I should be doing.

But I’m not creating.

I get sidetracked by the advice.

  • Should I use this recommended writing tool?
  • Is my newsletter app the best for my niche?
  • When are the best times to post?
  • How do I grow my audience to 1000 subscribers?

I’m just starting! I don’t need the advice, I need the action.

My goal is to focus on the basics — simple and clear.

Focus #1 = Write long-form and use a basic publisher (Medium).

I don’t need a website yet. I don’t need to worry about what times I post. Or how many responses I’m getting.

I need to practice writing. And publishing.

I need to ignore the content selling me tips on writing for LinkedIn, Twitter, or Threads — I’m just focused on building a writing habit.

Once I get comfortable with those two actions, then I can learn how to grow, niche, and monetize.

Focus #2 = Record and publish on YouTube with the tools I already have.

I don’t need a fancy camera yet. I don’t need to worry about my brand. Or how many videos I create a week.

I need to practice my scripting and recording.

I need to ignore the content selling me tips on reaching 100, 500, or 1000 subscribers — I’m just focused on the habit of creating videos.

Once I’m comfortable in front of the camera, then I can learn how to build better thumbnails and how to collaborate with other creators.

Without content, I’ll always be at the beginning.

I’ll never see the results I dream of without the actual creation of my ideas — my articles, my videos, and my digital assets.

Eventually, I’ll want to branch out.

  • Grow and monetize.
  • Constantly improve my style and tools.
  • Build a community.

But for now — I just need to focus.

Give me one clap or fifty! Clapping more or less tells me the content that connects and is useful to you.

Leave your honest comment, please! This tells me your opinion, experiences, and thoughts — which helps me write more content for you.
