Abstract

The article "Want To Change Your Life? Start with these 4 Key Areas" delves into the significance of maintaining a harmonious balance across four fundamental pillars of life to foster overall well-being and a sense of purpose. It suggests that while there are numerous beliefs and philosophies about life, focusing on these four areas can lead to a more fulfilling existence. The author posits that neglecting any one of these pillars can hinder one's ability to live fully and cultivate a higher purpose. The four pillars are not ranked by importance, as each plays a crucial role in shaping one's quality of life. The first pillar, physical well-being, stresses the necessity of caring for the body through regular exercise, proper diet, and avoiding harmful habits. The second pillar, emotional well-being, involves understanding and managing one's emotions effectively, developing emotional intelligence, and not allowing external factors to dictate one's emotional state. Mental well-being, the third pillar, requires nurturing the mind through practices like journaling, mindful media consumption, and goal setting. Lastly, spiritual well-being, which may vary in definition for individuals, is about cultivating a relationship with a higher power or a sense of purpose that guides one's life journey. The author concludes by encouraging readers to reflect on and invest in these areas to achieve a balanced and joyful life.

Want To Change Your Life? Start with these 4 Key Areas

Man's search for ideal ways of being has been the underlying theme for many hundreds of years now. We’re constantly trying to figure out why we’re even alive. There are many different beliefs about the world, what happens when we die, God, etc.

There are varying religions, belief systems, and patterns of thought — that we all fall into. It’s human nature. It’s the brain’s analytical way of trying to make sense of things like it always does.

I say all of this because some people give this life stuff a bit too much thought sometimes. And I believe there are 4 areas of your life that subconsciously work together to deliver your perception of happiness or contentment in life.

The good thing for you is that you can actively work on these areas to improve yourself.

If you’re off in any one of these areas, it will probably prevent you from reaching or cultivating a higher purpose in life.

If you want to become your best self, a balance must be demonstrated in these areas.

These 4 pillars are not listed in order of importance, as they are all equal in their ability to impact your life.

Pillar 1:Physical well-being

Your body is the temple, as they say. You can be the smartest person, or most ambitious, and achieve anything. But not if your body isn’t being taken care of properly. It will catch up with you.

Your body is the physical shell that you voyage through life with. It the only real one you’ve got. We see what happens when you don’t take care of your body. It doesn’t turn out well for those people.

Exercise regularly. Get the flood flow going. It feels amazing. When was the last time you lifted weights? Or got your heart racing going on a run? (Not a big fan of treadmills; but better than nothing)

You are what you eat. And that’s great news because you do have control over that, and it’s something we do so often that changing habits is easier than you think. Start eating better. A well-balanced diet is necessary. Limit sugar, and aim for zero refined sugar.

Even if you’re thriving in all other areas on this list, it won’t matter if you died early heart disease. Take care of your body.

Pillar 2: Emotionally Well-Being

I’ve had some personal growth moments with this one as of recently.

By now, hopefully, you know yourself well enough so you can anticipate how certain events will trigger different emotions in you. These can be positive feelings or negative ones.

Of course, it’s not always possible to predict how you will react to unknown events that haven’t happened yet.

But the goal should be to learn from our negative reactions that serve no purpose for us to train ourselves in the future better.

Having knowledge and control over how you react and respond to events and people is a large part of emotional intelligence.

Practice allowing your feelings to come and go without identifying with them.

When you want to be the master of your life, you can’t allow others to determine how you feel.

Emotional intelligence is vital to reaching your goals and being the person you were born to be.

Pillar 3: Mental well-being

At first glance, this will appear to be the largest area needing growth in most people. The word mental will be interpreted differently by different people. In this instance, we are talking about the mind's workings specifically—the actual thing between your ears.

Self-proclaimed and diagnosed illnesses such as depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders, and addictive behaviors are examples of your mind being out of tune a bit, for varying reasons.

Psychologists have been studying these behaviors for years now, and I won’t pretend to be an expert. But that’s okay — I don’t have to be one.

I want to live and happy and healthy life, to my fullest-God given potential, just like you.

How you are what you eat physically, your brain works the same way.

What I would recommend as a baseline:

  • journal about life — find the clarity you wouldn’t have found otherwise
  • limit media consumption that isn’t giving you useful knowledge
  • 0 news. Nothing there is useful for your personal growth. Sorry.
  • Read and be inspired by the people who are where you want to be
  • Be comforted by the fact that life is a series of ups and downs.

Your mind is the catalyst for all of these things on the list, and it’s important to keep it positively stimulated in a useful way.

This includes setting goals and taking action on goals. Whatever that looks like for you.

Spiritual Well-being

I can’t imagine walking around on earth, thinking it was just me — all alone.

That sounds terrifying.

The word spiritual will have many different connotations for many different people.

Whatever your higher power is, I pray that you have one.

Developing a relationship with God/Higher Power helps explain your existence and, through purposeful nourishment — will enable your walk in life to be more fulfilling and meaningful.

If you're conscious about it, this area of life will primarily dominate all the others. I’m not here to preach to you; that’s my experience.

You must be disciplined and purposeful, and I never said it was easy.

Conclusion

Congratulations!

You’ve concluded a mind-stimulating article for your consciousness to chew on.

Despite whatever beliefs you may have, I firmly believe that finding balance in the four areas above is crucial for self-development and living a joyful and abundant life.

The reality is that none of the areas above will ever be perfect in your life, but hopefully, my simplistic approach provides you with a more applicable way to improve thy self. (Which is your life)

I challenge you to take a few moments to think about which of these areas in your life could use more love and attention.

All of them take time; all of them take work.

And although we will never be perfect, beauty is found in the balance.

Thanks for reading.

Now find your equilibrium.
