We all want to ‘make it' here on Medium. To grow a successful profile and earn some coin for the work we’ve created — I mean that’s why we write here, right?
And while your main focus may be on creating fantastic pieces of work that will attract many reads and claps there is one other area that you must remember to pay attention to. Your followers.
These are the people who can make or break your success here on this platform. Without loyal followers to read and enjoy your work, you may as well be writing on a toilet wall for all the good it will do.
Making Friends
Attracting followers on Medium is quite simple but it does take time. Much like the real world, not everyone is going to want to be your friend. People have different tastes and you may not be their cup of tea. But that’s ok. There are plenty of members on here who do share your passions, you just have to find them.
When you do find someone who’s writing you enjoy then it’s time to interact. Highlight words and phrases in their articles that speak, motivate and inspire you. Hit their work with multiple claps — the maximum is fifty, don’t be afraid to use them — and don’t forget to leave a comment, share your thoughts and feelings related to their piece.
More times than not they will return the favour. And when they do don’t forget to reply to their comments. It’s the least you can do after they took the time to read and respond to your work. Manners go along way on Medium, always remember that.

Appreciate Your Followers
No matter if you have one hundred, one thousand or one million followers you should appreciate them all. They are the people who are going to help you grow not only profile but also your writing skills with the feedback they give.
Of course, as your number of readers increases it will be hard to reply to everyone, but at least acknowledge them with a clap or a short thank you message when you can. A small gesture goes a long way.
It’s easy to get hung up on how many followers you have — a bad habit most likely developed from using social media platforms — but try not to focus too much on that number. Stay active, keep writing, sharing the love and enjoying the platform for what it is. A place to get creative and express yourself.
Do that and your numbers are sure to grow. I look forward to growing alongside you.
I hope you enjoyed this article, thanks for taking the time to read it, much appreciated. Please feel free to comment below and share your thoughts, opinions and experiences with myself and the other readers.
Thank you.
