Want a Laptop for Writing? Get a Used Chromebook.

There are several reasons used it better than the new one.

Have you ever felt limited by your old slowed-down laptop? Maybe you are tired of fighting with your phone to use Medium. If you are not planning on playing video games on your laptop, consider buying a used Chromebook rather than buying a new laptop.

1. Laptops become outdated quickly. The truth is, your brand-new laptop will be outdated in just a few years at most. They are constantly improving laptops and with every improvement comes to a newer laptop. Even expensive laptops are affected by this. It is typically more difficult to upgrade the hardware inside a laptop than a standard desktop. I have built a desktop with one of my friends. I wouldn’t even consider trying to upgrade anything inside of a laptop. So, when you are paying full price for a Brand-New laptop, you will probably be considering doing it again in a few years. Getting a used/refurbished Chromebook is much cheaper and has plenty of power for most things average people will do on a laptop other than video games.
2. You will save a lot of money. Go look up the price of an average new laptop. I’ll wait. Ok, so they are anywhere between $200 and well over the $1,000 price point. I just bought a refurbished Chromebook yesterday from amazon. I got it today, on easter! It cost me less than $90 even after tax. This little computer is perfect for typing on. It even has a touch screen.
3. Smaller laptops, and Chromebooks, are even more portable. If you are like me, I love being able to tote around my laptop with me where ever I go so I can type whenever the inspiration strikes. For me, this is easier than a notebook. The problem is that most laptops are rather large and bulky. Conversely, the lightweight ones are super thin and get damaged more easily. Small Chromebooks are a great option. With their smaller size, they weigh less without being too thin.
4. Most Chromebooks run on the Chrome operating system. I was personally skeptical about having a laptop that was not Windows. But setting this little guy up was so much easier because of how chrome is integrated into it. Things might have changed since the last time I had gotten a laptop. I remember it was a very long process of getting it set up, signed into everything, and finally able to use it. This time, things were incredibly fast! If you typically use the chrome browser, most people do, it saves everything and brings it over. I had all my bookmarks, my passwords, and even my extensions automatically installed. From opening the box to signing into all my normal websites in under 5 minutes!

If you are considering getting a laptop for writing, or even using Canva to create designs, a Chromebooks is a great option. You save money with almost no sacrifice when getting a used one rather than new one. The only ones I wouldn’t recommend this to are people who make videos, live stream, or play a lot of computer games. In which case, I wouldn’t even recommend a laptop at all. Just go for a desktop at that point!
