Walking with Grief
The Unshakeable Shadow

In the morning, when the sun is on the rise,
I journey alone on the path of life,
Led by the unshakeable shadow of grief.
When the road seems long, and temptation strong,
I remember how you pressed on
When your strength’s almost gone.
Afflicted, stricken and smitten,
With aching bones out of joint,
Keeping your faith to finish the race.
In the evening as the moonlight wanes,
Grief persists without a shadow.
My mouth cries out in thirst,
As my heart pounds for warmth.
Hands reach out for comforting grace,
Nothing in my hands to give,
Seeking only your embrace,
Waking up to find you’ve gone.
Memories linger, never forgotten,
As our love endures forever.
O, what joy fills my soul in the darkest night,
Knowing you rest now in peace in His might.
In His love I too abide,
No longer lonely, for now He too is mine.
In His presence is found fullness of joy,
His shadow leads me gently all the way,
In the sufficiency of His grace.
Together, we walk in faith through the day,
With blessed assurance to our meet
At the end of all the days.
