💯 STORY CHALLENGE

Walking The Poetic Beat

No 2 of 💯: What views lie in another man’s mind? What wondrous designs leap to life?

Nightly, I walk dreary streets; neon lights buzzing; drunken brawls; streetwalkers offering momentary bliss; pushers offering delivery from banal to sublime for the price of a soul.

Mundanes walk these streets, jaws agape, marvelling at their sensory overload — the sounds, the exotic tastes, the aromas of freedom, and the promise of erotic pleasures. Reality draws them into its lie.

It is illusionary. Reality is fiction. Madness is truth. Words are freedom.

With only the thrust of a piece of opium, reality unravels, and madness proceeds.

I roam the streets at dawn, dreaming dreams of lunatics, and revelling in the explorations.

This question inspired me to pen this story.

What if they don’t see any of it, just look past it, into a different world that has nothing to do with the bicyclist, the aid [sic] conditioner, the shingles, the light bulbs, and all that jazz?

Adelina Vasile

Inspired by Zane Dickens 💯 Story Challenge. Let’s see how long I last. One more criteria I’m adding is the stories will be self-published and not in a Medium publication.

Paul Mansfield is a writer, photographer, guitar player, philosopher — some he does well, others not so well. He still tries them all. You can follow him on Twitter @pmansfield.

And if you want to subscribe to Medium, here’s a link where he gets paid a trifle to sell his soul to the Corporate Overlords.

The first story in his 💯 Story Challenge.

And my challenges today to go on this first or perhaps many💯 day writing journeys go out to May More and Paul Combs. Give us your tiny vignettes of life, real or imaginary.
