Walking Camino de Santiago in Spain

Not all who wander are lost

This new publication — Walking Camino — is a joint venture of Deb Harman and Darren Weir, and for anyone interested in the Camino de Santiago. In 2015, eight years ago, I needed a serious adventure. I’d been through a lot, and needed to shake up my brain. I needed to move my body, walk under a big sky, and pass through scenery. A lot of it.

I wanted to see stars at night, and I wanted to live deliberately. The Camino de Santiago is ‘The Way of St. James.” I’m not particularly religious, but I’m spiritual. When I decided to do the 500-mile walk, from southern France across the Pyrenees Mountains — passing onto the Iberian Peninsula — part of me thought it was a bit crazy.

The better part of me thought it was just what I needed. Over the course of forty-one days, I walked. I walked, ate, and slept. I drink fine red wine, and I laughed and talked with others. Days I was mostly alone. Walking alone suits me. I walked off some depression, and I became joyful again.

Planning travel feels hopeful to me. A trip. An adventure! And it’s time to start planning again, and that entails getting in shape and looking at maps. All so fun!

If you’re interested in walking any of the paths in Spain, or that originate outside of Spain and end at Santiago de Compostela, feel free to follow us.

I’ve walked the Camino several times, and Darren is a seasoned world traveller who plans to walk the Camino later this year.

Join us as we get in shape for our Caminos, tell stories, talk about gear and distance walking, and share our hopes and travel plans!

Buen Camino,

Deb
