Nature Prompt for 3rd week of November:
Walk In the Woods and Notice the Effect on Your Body

Oh, the woods, my childhood sanctuary beckons and I go. Whenever life’s woes threaten to overwhelm me, I run to my friend. You greet me with open arms. You soothe my spirit with unconditional love. You ask for nothing and give freely.
The supple boughs of the flowering dogwood hug me tight. Your leaves tickle my cheek and hide me from view. You provide a nook where I can read undisturbed. I enjoy peanut butter sandwiches while my feet dangle in space.
The air cleans my lungs with fresh oxygen. It is so much easier to breathe, free of polluted articulates. The wind ruffles my hair, reviving my aura. It disturbs the quaking aspen much like a snare drum roll.
Songbird melodies stir my heart. I have to dance and twirl with abandon. The bubbling brook flows past boulders in its path. No obstacle can stop determined water. There’s a life lesson here, isn’t there?
“But I’ll tell you what hermits realize. If you go off into a far, far forest and get very quiet, you’ll come to understand that you’re connected with everything.” — Alan Watts
My soul sings when I walk the woods in springtime. A profusion of wildflowers burst from rotted leaves. The forest floor transforms into a colorful canvas.

Delicate anemones hug tree trunks.

The bloodroot opens wide petals.

Bluebells add a spot of color.

Dutchman’s breeches say hello.

Blue phlox wave their heads and Jack-in-the-pulpit preaches its message.

Bellworts sneak glances, tucked beneath their leaves.

Indian paintbrush brightens the sides of trails.

Balsam roots worship the sun.
I can’t remain despondent amongst such glorious blossoms. They’re celebrating life and now, so must I!
