Letters to John — From Canada — Letter Four

Waking up at Whistler Caravan Park

Where should I go from here? Planning the day

When I went to Canada in 2016, I wrote John a letter (email) every day. In this way, we felt as if we were traveling together. This is part of my fourth letter to John, which I wrote on the third day on my way from Whistler to Lillooet.

I just had a wonderful hot shower, made my bed (it wasn’t such a big job, as the couch is electric), and figured out how to set up the table, so now I can have breakfast at the table. My morning meal isn’t the best, as I only have the cheap cereal I got from Dollarama — it tastes like sugar clusters with milk. I also remember what I forgot to buy yesterday — tea. It would be so lovely to have a cup of hot tea; chai tea with milk would be the best, but… I don’t have any tea…

The weather got even worse… The sky turned completely grey, and one boring, dull cloud like a thick silver blanket concealed the firmament. So far, the sun hasn’t shown its face, and now it is raining. I can’t even see the beautiful mountains, which silhouettes I could admire last night. I deeply dislike the silly, depressing weather.

I noticed that the camper van parked in front of me was the cute 19’ compact RV I was going to rent. Unfortunately, I didn’t get it, as the drop-off location had to be the same as the pick-up point.

The best about these motor homes is that the main bed is above the driver’s cabin. This means that I could always leave the other bench and the table up without worrying about making the bed. I know, it is as lazy as you can get when making the bed is too much work. It takes me about a minute to change my couch into a comfortable bed in my van. So, maybe I should stop complaining about this…

I am trying to decide where I will be going today. My plan was to go in the direction of Prince George and then to Prince Rupert. However, I vaguely remember that Google-maps painted the image of the coastal town and surroundings as a relatively flat, monotonous and unremarkable area.

Maybe I should go to the Rockies. Everybody knows that the Rockies are so mesmerising that they are on the bucket list of millions of people. I will see what happens; I can make up my mind a bit later, as whichever direction I want to go from here, I will go north and continue driving on the See to Sky Highway number 99.

And one is sure about my plan for today — I will find a camping ground no later than 7 pm, and by 10 pm, I will definitely be asleep. Anyway, first I will go for a little walk on the camping ground and then drive to Whistler village and spend half an hour there.

I just wasted quite a bit of time trying to find my rain jacket. You wouldn’t think losing it in such a small space is possible. I went through all the shelves and cupboards a couple of times, and I could not find it. It simply disappeared.

In the end, I found it in a place I would never expect it to be — hanging with my other jackets… Oh well, in the meantime, the rain stopped, and the weather became much more friendly for my DSLR camera — still cloudy, but no rain. I should go for my walk now and pay for the caravan park.

Oh no, I haven’t done the dishes yet. I have better start moving otherwise, I will still be here at lunchtime.

This story is from my unpublished book called “Letters to John — From Canada.” One day I hope to publish the entire “Letters to John” series, but until then, I decided to share snippets of my books on various social media and writers’ platforms.
