Wailing At My Window
A TBIN poetry prompt response
mourning — the heavy lamenting that comes from a man
drifted through my window the sky was pitch as the south’s sky is pitch
it reminded me to lock my window
the moaning propelled itself to the forefront of my conscious hearing
it was then that I realized the wailing had been growing it had been ongoing for some time
louder, louder, louder until all I could hear and feel was sorrow
crickets and cicada knew to yield to the bereft
abruptly it stopped
the crickets did not resume their song
I listened to the silence until it was too loud
I closed my window and prayed
