Voting and Bullshit

There’s a difference between support of policies and political parties and support of individuals who perpetrate vulgarity and immorality.
It is naive to think that a man can be effectively pro-life and manifest consistently the character traits that lead to death — temporal and eternal. — John Piper
There’s a difference between being a voter of a party and a supporter of an individual. Supporting a party says that you support that party’s values. Supporting an individual says you support that person’s values.
Over my lifetime, I will vote for people who don’t share my values but overall, they’re just a better person to vote for in that race. — Stan Van Gundy
By all means, vote. By all means, vote for the candidates that line up with your values and vision of the future.
This isn’t a post to tell you how to vote, it’s a post to remind you that words matter, and not just the ones you use but the ones you align yourself with.
If you vote for Trump, hold him accountable.
If you vote for Biden, hold him accountable.
Neither man is perfect. We know that. But blatant support enables one to perpetuate harm. Which is why someone may feel enabled to say, “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters.”
You can vote for someone and still call out their bullshit.
And if you’re offended by the language I’ve used in this post, good, I am too.
But shouldn’t one’s standards for living and speech be higher for the leader of the free world than of me?
