Volvo Group and Aurora announced a partnership on Autonomous transportation.

A big boom in the development of on-highway autonomous trucks.

Volvo Autonomous Solutions, the new commercial division of the Volvo Group dedicated to the development and commercialization of Autonomous Vehicles and solutions, just announced a partnership with Aurora to develop a world-class autonomous transportation solutions scale.

The partnership’s initial focus will be developing and deploying an autonomous transportation solution for hub-to-hub applications, and the commercialization of L4 Class 8 trucks in North America.

Volvo Autonomous Solutions has formed a strategic alliance with Aurora, a self-driving company based in the United States, to develop on-highway autonomous trucks.

Aurora is promoting self-driving-based productivity smoothly and with efficiency.

In 2017, driverless vehicle experts Chris Urmson, and Sterling Anderson, gathered to design an integrated driverless network of manufacturing, logistics, and fleet management strategy.

Crafted to handle goods and people safely, Aurora is supported by Amazon and Hyundai, and others have commercial alliances with PACCAR, FCA, and Uber.

It tests its vehicles in the Bay Area, Pittsburgh, and Detroit and has offices in those cities.

The partnership

The agreement signed by Volvo Autonomous Solutions and Aurora represents a multi-year partnership. The initial focus will be on hub-to-hub applications for North American customers. Automation is intended to provide tangible benefits to customers and society regarding productivity, safety, sustainability, and energy efficiency.

This collaboration will focus on integrating the Aurora Driver into Volvo’s on-highway trucks and developing industry-leading Transport as a Service solution. These solutions are based on Volvo’s top products and track record in safety and Aurora’s extensive experience in developing self-driving systems.

The previous partnership announced by partners such as Nvidia and others will continue on a parallel track with the Aurora collaboration.
