Vocal Media Rejects My Article for “Religious Content”

The great irony is that Halloween is a religious tradition too.

Last November, I had a long conversation with my kids about Halloween.

I told them the history of Halloween. I made them understand why we don’t celebrate it and how it isn’t aligned with our values as a Muslim family. I told them that our religion is rich with fun occasions and activities that work more with our core values. In the end, I convinced them not to participate in Halloween.

One week after posting my story on Medium, I wanted to post it on a different platform. After doing some research, I decided to join Vocal Media.

I emailed Medium’s support team, asking if I could post my article elsewhere. I wanted to confirm that I don’t violate Medium’s terms of use by posting the same content again on Vocal. Medium replied that there should not be any problem.

After Medium’s confirmation, I submitted my article to Vocal for review and approval.

After waiting for four days, I was surprised to find out that my story was rejected because it contains religious content!

“It seems that I forgot to check the guidelines,” I thought.

Right away, I checked Vocal’s Community Guidelines. And yes, religious content is not acceptable.

Religious content

We’ve seen far too many instances of religious content creating alienation and division in society. That’s why we do not publish stories that take an overtly religious stance, or function from the vantage point that a certain religion is truer, or in any way superior, to another.

But wait a minute!

There are many pro-Halloween stories already posted in Vocal Media! Was my story rejected because it’s anti-Halloween?

Halloween is a Satanic tradition. It represents the devil worshipper’s New Year. In other words, it’s also a religious tradition.

Does Vocal Media know that? If yes, then they are hypocrites. If not, then they are ignorant. Unfortunately, many parents don’t know that by sending their kids for “trick or treat,” they revive this Satanic tradition.

I’m living in a country where most people are Christians. So which side is “creating alienation and division in society”?! Indeed, it’s Satan’s worshippers and whoever promotes them.
