Dreams Depicted Future Events Before They Happened
The gut feeling when you know something is going to happen but you can’t change it
The first time I dreamed something weird, I had just come down with such a high fever my mother panicked and brought me across the hall to stay at my aunt’s apartment. They put me in my cousin’s bedroom where the airplanes on his wallpaper seemed to be flying across a blue sky.
After that night, I began to dream about many incidents before they happened, but when I told my mother she would dismiss them as “fantasies” and hush me up.
When I grew older I still dreamed of upcoming events, usually right before they happened, but my mother told me something very different. She said those types of things also happened to my grandmother and my Aunt Margaret, both of whom she mentioned were “sensitive.”
My Aunt Margaret always had Tarot cards at the ready, an Ouija Board on her table, crystals, and rocks, and my mother always said she was odd. Now she’s saying sensitive. Is that because I’m now in that category minus the Ouija board?
Most of my dreams were of small stuff, but a few incidents stuck in my mind. Sometimes I felt as if things were about to happen while I was awake and they came to fruition shortly afterward.
First real event
When I was 17 my mother decided to send me and my sister, Emma, to modeling school in New York City despite our protests. It would require hitchhiking to the train station and then walking a few blocks to our classes. What we did like was being in New York City, so instead of going to the school my sister and I would walk around the streets for an hour enjoying the sights and sounds.
One night before our next trip to the city, I had a dream about a building being on fire. It was so clear as if I were there. We’d be walking down this long street and diagonally across the avenue, there would be a red-brick building with flames coming out of the top floor.
The next day while walking through some of our favorite streets, we came around the corner, and there at the end of the street were fire engines, and a red brick building diagonally across the avenue with flames shooting out of the windows.
That was scary. Nothing like that had happened for a while, yet I still thought it was an isolated incident as there were a lot of red brick buildings in New York City and a lot of fires.
My closet?
Then one night I had a dream my closet was on fire. I didn’t dare tell my mom for fear she’d freak out or shoo me off to school mad. It had to be a ridiculous dream, there was nothing dangerous in my closet but clothing.
When I came home from school I found all my clothes, charred along the shoulders in a pile, outside the back door. I screamed, “What happened to my clothes?”
She had left a plastic cleaning bag on one of the items she was storing in my closet and the pipe from the heater, which came up from the basement and ran through my closet to the roof, was so hot it caught the bag on fire. Most of my clothes were ruined before she could save them.
That was a tough one. I should have told her about my dream, maybe she could have been proactive and checked the closet before the incident occurred. She gave me some of her outdated dresses to wear until school was over for that semester, more ammunition for the kids to tease me.
The next time I dreamed about a fire, I did tell my mother before I left for school. I told her the woods across the road from our house were on fire. She took me seriously and kept watch. Sure enough, the two boys who lived across the way played hooky that day, were smoking in the woods, and started a fire.
My mother was able to call the police and fire department immediately, and the fire was put out before it spread. After that, I did not have any more fire dreams for years.
Another place and time, another dream
It wasn’t until I moved to South Ozone Park with my cat that I had another dream come true. My cat got out one night and came back pregnant, probably from my landlord’s cat.
As the pregnancy progressed I started having dreams about her kittens having 6 toes. It recurred throughout her pregnancy, but it was such a silly dream, like a monster chasing me or something, I didn’t give this one much thought.
The night she gave birth to five kittens, whom I named Eeny, Meeny Miny, Moe, and Curly, I noticed almost every one of them had at least 2 or all 4 paws with 6 toes. I wasn’t too shocked because I had been prepared due to the dream, but it shocked the heck out of my neighbor, especially when I told her I knew ahead of time.
As I got older the dreams and psychic feelings became less. I was told as we take on more responsibility our minds become more cluttered and are not as open a channel to that sort of thing.
Yes, I was losing it. My dreams were much less accurate. One night I had a dream the upper corner of the gable of this white house was on fire. I could not tell which house it was but the neighbor to my right lived in a white house with a gable roof.
I debated whether or not to say anything, then I decided to mention it before I left for work.
When I returned home, she came running over. I said, “Don’t tell me your house caught fire?” She said, “No, the bank on the other side of your apartment did.”
“But the bank is brick, how could it be the bank?”
“The fire was in their attic and the flames were coming out of the small vent above the brick on the white gable roof.”
Dump truck
This was too weird to believe it would ever happen. In my dream, I was driving down the highway when a dark dump truck turned over onto the car my mother and I were in, and then I woke up, shaken.
Later on that day traffic was blocked for miles and I was stuck in it with dozens and dozens of other cars. As I finally got close enough to see, as there was one lane open, a dump truck had flipped over on top of a car. I found out afterward a man and his dog were still in it and somehow survived.
Then a nightmare really began
I was having dreams about my son being in a bad accident near my house. I wrote a whole story about this. By this point, I knew my dreams had a tendency to be a warning of something and I took them seriously. I’ll attach a link to the true story below.
After that, there were a few more where I dreamed something strange about someone, and then an animal died, and I dreamed my boss was pregnant then the next day she told me she had a tumor in her uterus, so I was close but not as close as I used to be.
My last two
Then my mother came to me in an afternoon nap and told me she died. When I told the people I saw that day, no one believed me until we found out it was true. I wrote a story about that, too. I’ll attach that link for anyone interested.
I haven’t had many I can say were important after that, but more recently had a dream that my dead ex-husband was trying to kill me. It was so realistic I felt him kneeling on my chest about to choke me. Then I woke up.
This one I can’t figure out, but I will make a fiction story out of that one, unless of course, he gets to me first.
