A Poem
Oh so that’s how it is I see, you want to us to explode —
blow up the net with some poetic prose give to the masses
some brief poetry fuel so that it might catch on as
internet things can often do — shared across sites and tweeted for days,
burning up the web with poet praise making it cool, making it chic
giving poets glory for maybe a week —
and then what, we’re done? It’s time to move on?
Fleeting and fast, the quick in, dash out this is not what poetry is even about —
to push us to thrive in this space of constantly scrolling feeds
is to essentially crush the poets like weeds
and yet as you know and might have guessed we find ways to grow and we pass every test
what you read you might remember what you remember you might feel
poetry exists to help people heal
give us your time, invest yourself with us —
Poetry is the art that loves back, the soul that is touched.
