Vinoba Bhave’s Wisdom for a Joyous Life.
Lessons from Vinoba Bhave and the Bhagavad Gita on Living with Purpose and Contentment.

Acharya Vinoba Bhave (an Indian advocate of nonviolence and human rights) once remarked- If we desire our demeanor to remain liberated and content, we must establish a sequence in our conduct. Our daily routine should follow a definite foundation.
The mind can only find freedom when our lives adhere to a boundary and a certain regularity. The river flows freely, but its course is bound. If it were not so, its freedom would be in vain. Let’s bring forth the example of the wise.
“The sun is the teacher of the wise. First, God taught Karma Yoga to the sun; then, from the sun, it reached Manu, that is, humanity. The sun is independent and free. It is regular.
In this lies its independence. It’s our experience that if we have a habit of traveling on a particular path, we can still wander while thinking. If we keep making new paths daily, we must focus on those paths alone. Then the mind cannot find freedom.”
“In summary, we should bind our behavior because life should not feel burdensome but joyous. Therefore, Lord Krishna discusses the program in Chapter 17 of the Bhagavad Gita. We take birth with three institutions. Man can make his world happy with these three, so the Gita teaches this program. The first institution is the body attached to us. The second institution is the vast universe around us, of which we are a part. The third institution is society, in which we are born. We use these three institutions every day. The Gita wants us to strive to fulfill these institutions and make our lives successful.”
“We should perform the duties towards these institutions with a sense of detachment. We must fulfill these duties, but what is the plan for their fulfillment? It is through the practice of sacrifice, charity, and austerity that this plan is made. If we understand the meaning of these three and incorporate them into our lives, then our life will also be free and content.”
