Venus Departure

Material Requisition

Intel Gathering Is a Material Requisition

Acquiring my first target on Venus wasn’t too difficult since I already had a lead on a Helios crew chief known to take bribes for organizing illicit ‘personal mining’ excursions. He was quite compliant after offering him money for one of his infamous off reservation jaunts. Little did he know, or will remember, what we really talked about during our 90 minute discussion. At least he’ll be OK with having a little extra spending money that I used as persuasion to get his attention.

Following the intel gained from my meeting with the Helios crew chief put me in the company of a few rather capable marauders. They were Helios transport crew members, and my intuition is telling me that they had to know something about the Urite hijackings because they were not only on location during two notable occurrences, but they were also in possession of tech used to refine and measure the quality of Urite. While in their presence, I noticed an unexpected detail, they were brandishing seldom seen sidearms that are discreetly known to be associated with brain flashing tech. This detail, while not germane to recovering the hijacked Urite shipment, was still very useful information.

Once I got close enough to these suspected Urite marauders I was able to discern that they were not culprits of the hijacked shipment I was tracking, but they were quite full of local scuttle-butt about recent amounts of Urite crystal being dumped on Venus’s illustrious black markets. The accounts of Urite crystal activity provided by the Helios transport crew members were similar to the intel gathered on Mars in regards to the amounts of market ready unregistered Urite, in that those amounts don’t equate to a full Urite crystal shipment. Why these smallish amounts of Urite are being sold at weigh stations leaving a proof positive trail does not make clear sense to me now, but I’ll gladly take the info as yet another indicator that the trail we’re following is getting warmer.

One thing surely leads to another, and although the last few suspects were not actually my prime targets, they were able to point me to another crew that were said to be servicing the cargo transport that was believed to be dumping Urite on the black market. Figuring out how to get close enough to one of them without spooking them was no easy task, and was how I earned my stripes this mission. Following and accosting a member of this group was dangerous yet necessary, but this is what I signed up for.

Maybe accosting someone to get to the bottom of this hijacking business is too light a term. Maim and torture is a slightly better characterization of what may need to happen if I can’t find a way to socially extract more info. I’m so close to the truth I can smell it. Fifteen days on this hot rock is beginning to eat at my humanity, but I can’t let my eagerness jeopardize the process.

Another word for patience is stubbornness. At least that term doesn’t make me sound so passive for playing the waiting game, which finally paid off by taking another trip to the Helios Entertainment area. Three members from the Helios transport crew I’ve been stalking walked into the entertainment area giving me another opportunity to corner one (or more) of these suspected marauders. And after some not so friendly pugilism in the wager-cage, only two of them walked out.

Silvia’s cryptic message was still irritating my subconscious thought adding to my growing level of anxiety. This subconscious irritant was temporarily subdued by the brutal wager-cage match I engineered with one of the three in their group. After my convincing win in the wager-cage fight with their crew member, it was just a matter of course getting the other two to drink from my cocktail of truth, and they provided enough intel to consider this mission to Venus a wrap. It seems that everyone is eager to toast a winner, even when they’re actually your enemy.

The intel gathered on this Venus mission not only verified that we’re following the right trail, but included details of the next planned Urite hijacking, which was extracted from the unwitting Helios crew members. The unexpected acquisition of memory weapon details was a bonus. The most encouraging bit of intel was confirmation that the hijacked Urite shipment is still recoverable, which is exactly what I and the Federation have been in desperate need of. Receiving a positive status of the hijacked Urite shipment will make HQ Command happy, but I’ll need to visit HQ in person to deliver this intel along with the more complicated and still scarce details of who’s behind these hijack incursions and why.
