Venturing Out of Your Comfort Zone
Practical tips to help you get out of your comfort zone
Can you recall when you wanted to do something that was out of your comfort zone but scared even to do it? It’s okay. Many people would rather stay in their comfort zones then step out due to the uncertainties of not knowing what will happen. I recently realized that I had let the fear of the unknown control all my decisions throughout my life. And honestly, that is not the way to live because you can be missing out on so much. Such as an opportunity to advance in your career, make a bold move by moving to another country, meeting new people, or learning new things. Keep in mind doing these things will help you grow rather than be stagnate.
Here are some ways to help you get out of your comfort zone and help you to grow at that the same time :
Make the First Move
Tell yourself that you will start taking small steps out of your comfort zone daily.
Create a “To-Do List”
Take some time to sit down and create a list of things you wanted to do but haven’t done it. When creating this list, be sure to include a comfortable time frame for completion when you want each activity accomplished.
Be Accountable
Look into getting an accountability partner to keep you focused, such as a friend, family member, or partner because knowing that you have someone watching you, the less chance of you wanting to quit because you wouldn’t want to look like a quitter.
Try Doing Different Things :
Fear of Public Speaking
You could try joining public speaking groups, such as Toastmasters, The Art of Public Speaking through Meetup. There are benefits to joining one of these groups. It will help you overcome your fear of speaking in front of people, also give you confidence.
Look into Eating Different Foods
If you ever wanted to try different food types, try eating at another restaurant once in a while or even try cooking other meals.
Go Traveling
Select a place locally to take a day trip either by car or train during the weekend. It’s okay to take baby steps when doing this till you are comfortable going further away, like to another state or another country, and okay with staying at a hotel for a few days.
Volunteer
Try volunteering. It will get you out there helping others. It will be rough at first, but you will get the confidence to continue with it in due time. A site you can look into is VolunteerMatch.org matches you with an organization that fits your skill set.
Final Thoughts
