Vent Art

a poem

There was a time where when something bad happened, I’d tweet about it, a habit of the past.

In a way, it helped at the beginning because internet validation is a strong phenomena; yet, as I met more people, the more questionable answers I got.

Sometimes people centered themselves and tried to reason out why it’s okay to be racist, yet others took this as an opportunity to dump their life story and make it my responsibility to soothe both mine and their emotions.

I’ve learned, though attractive at first, internet validation is a wormhole that can take you to the right universe, a comforting universe, but just as likely whip you to some dark, dark world, with no return trip.

So now I create vent art.

In a way, beyond expressing an emotion or telling a story, I get to process it to, whether in the structure of a poem or what analogies I use; or in the calming process of lines, colouring and choosing symbols to represent non-object experiences.

When I’m angry, sad, frustrated, now I no longer turn to tweeting, but rather, to vent art, as a way to cope.
