This year’s harvest 110+ vanilla beans, Cured in two batches, Stored in unpainted boxes of 50+ beans, Much better result than last year, Aromatic apartment.

Vanilla vine over 200 feet long with 5 growing tips, Getting squeezy in second bedroom, Raised LED lights, Altered vine’s supports, Solved immediate problem but deferred crunch time for 6 months.

Vanilla vine purchased as tiny cutting, Under LED lights nearly 7 years, No cost considered no financial plan just curiosity driven, Loved tending and wondering about vanilla’s growth.

Couldn’t believe start of first beans, Now bumper crop of “best yet” beans, Contemplated selling beans at local shop, Thought about selling vine complete with LED lights as “going concern”.

Thoughts of selling dreams upset me, Especially when someone said “cost recovery exercise”.

Last weekend had enough of depressive stuff, Sat down with father vine and sipped coffee in deep reflection.

Reflection.

Over many years money regarded purely as supporting passionate pursuits, Early days that meant curiosity research and knowledge creation, Lifelong learning, Family became icing on cake.

Gardening passion and spiritual awakening should neither be monetarised nor considered in terms of risk and reward.

Over time found following my passions often opened sometimes surprising doors, Verily journey was only concern.

Framed reflection of passionate pursuit reaching point requiring purely emotional decision, Emotional situation made decisive choice obvious.

Decided not to contemplate selling or persuading people to buy my harvest.

Freely shared beans with family, They’re making vanilla rum ice-creams custards and vanilla slices, Sharing with kids friends and relatives, Family bonding.

Now everyone looks forward to future vanilla harvests.

Vanilla vine will outlive apartment, Take cuttings and setup vertical looped growing and harvesting, Show family how to look after them and enjoy sharing their experiences and sharing their harvests.
